Our Mission
To enhance the diverse cultures of all Nepalese Canadian people and communities in Calgary, particularly those who have true faith in Sanatan Dharma, and to contribute to creativity-infused experiences for the Calgary Nepalese community that allow all Sanatani followers to pursue diverse ways of celebrating their cultures that have their roots in diverse Nepalese communities in back home country, Nepal.
Our Vision
A safe and vibrant cultural hub where Nepalese Sanatani connect, practice, and pass on their timeless values and cultural traditions to future Nepalese generations.
Goal
To build and sustain a vibrant, inclusive, and culturally rich environment in Calgary where all Nepalese Sanatani can learn, celebrate, and preserve their diverse Sanatan heritage through education, community engagement, and a shared cultural center that strengthens social cohesion and intergenerational connection.
Objectives
The following are the objectives of the NEPALESE SANATAN CULTURAL SOCIETY:
- Teach the Sanatan tenets, principles, practices, arts, music, cuisine, and observances associated with the Sanatan ways of life that will improve community cohesion and social inclusion among Calgary's Nepalese people.
- Promote sustainable relationships among people of different Sanatan Nepalese cultures rooted in Nepal.
- Celebrate a positive understanding of different Nepalese Sanatan cultures across the wider Nepalese community.
- Involve and cooperate with as many Sanatan cultures, groups, and individuals as possible, helping eliminate social cohesion and inclusion barriers.
- Establish the safest, vibrant, and inclusive umbrella cultural center (Nepali Mandir, Gumba, Holy place of Kirant, Gurung, Magar, Tamang, and others) where all Nepalese Sanatani can practice, promote, and preserve their Sanatan Dharma for their new generations in Calgary.

- We understand humility as self-understanding and awareness, particularly recognizing the limits of one's talents, ability, authority, openness, and perspective.
- We recognize that respect and cultural humility are fundamental to all our relationships, including those with individuals, organizations, communities, and the natural environment.
- We commit to always conducting ourselves with respect in all situations, building respectful relationships with members, partners, and communities, and advocating for eliminating power imbalances in the Nepalese Sanatan community.
2. Inclusivity
- We believe in inclusion, which will create an environment of belonging in which each person feels valued and respected.
- NSCS respects and values diversity and inclusiveness in all aspects of its work. The NSCS recognizes that the Nepalese community and its membership are increasingly diverse. The NSCS is committed to being an inclusive cultural forum that respects dignity and human rights and contributes to a healthier, more equitable community.
- NSCS is dedicated to diversity and inclusiveness as core considerations in its governance (for example, nominations), operations (e.g., staffing), and other activities (e.g., annual general meeting). Following its mission, the NSCS recognizes that participation from diverse perspectives contributes to a more creative and flexible community.
- Cultural community that will lead to improved decision-making processes and policy advice for equitable cultural outcomes.
- NSCS is committed to identifying and addressing structural barriers that prevent diverse and inclusive participation in its work.
3. Ethical Practices
- We believe in ethical practices while delivering all types of services and support to people in the community. Society Bylaws.
4. Respect for Elders
- We believe in our respected elders, who are knowledge-keepers, coach, and mentors. We firmly believe that they can transfer their Sanatan knowledge to our new generations in the community.
5. Community Partnership
- We believe in collaborating with other community partners in Calgary, Alberta, and Canada.
6. Volunteerism
- We believe in the spirit of volunteerism in planning, implementing, and pursuing diverse Sanatan practices in the community.
